Project Name: 4-H TGIF

Project Description

4-H Teens Getting Involved for the Future (4-H TGIF) is a project of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) that promotes abstinence from sexual activity to middle-school youth in 14 Alabama counties. Counties targeted include Butler, Choctaw, Conecuh, Dallas, DeKalb, Elmore, Escambia, Hale, Lee, Marengo, Marion, Monroe, Tuscaloosa, and Wilcox.

The program serves middle school participants from 70 schools and utilizes teen leaders from 55 high schools. Teen leaders are an integral component of the abstinence education intervention. After receiving 25 to 40 hours of effective abstinence education, mentoring, counseling, adult supervision, and teacher training from ACES faculty and staff, more than 500 trained teen leaders team teach Managing Pressures before Marriage for Preteens to almost 6,000 sixth grade students.
