Eighth Annual Women's Health Update

The Office of Women's Health Eighth Annual Women's Health Update will be held Friday, August 7, 2015, at the St. Vincent's Health System Bruno Conference Center in Birmingham, Alabama. This year’s theme is Taking Charge: Empowering Women to Engage in Healthy Living, An Interprofessional Conference for Health Care Providers. This event is continuing education offering for registered nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and other health care providers.

Note: The abstract submission deadline has been extended until June 15, 2015.


The purpose of the conference is to disseminate scholarly work that is aimed at improving the health status of all women. Topics included cardiovascular health, weight management, nutrition, complementary and alternative medicine, preconception care, mental health issues, community involvement, and health policy. The conference provides a venue for scholars from various disciplines to share their latest projects and research findings with colleagues.

Continuing Education Credits

The Office of Women's Health Eighth Annual Women's Health Update will offer continuing education credits. The final list of current hours is pending. Currently, the Women's Health Update will offer:

  • Nursing - 4.8 Contact hours and 2.4 Pharmacology hours, for a total of 7.2 Hours
  • Social Work - 5.0 Education Hours
  • Dietetic - *HOURS PENDING*

There will also be a silent auction with many items contributed by Office of Women's Health Steering Committee members. Proceeds from the auction will be used to support outreach activities to promote women's health in Alabama.
