Since the first contest in 2007, Alabamians have lost more than one million pounds! Program faculty will provide important information to individuals who want to support the SBA program by coordinating individual participation in their workplace, religious organization or school.

Ebola: What We Know Today and How We Can Prepare

Though viral hemorrhagic fevers such as Ebola have been described for a number of years, the recent outbreak of Ebola in West Africa represents the largest outbreak in history. According to the CDC, it is possible that a person traveling from a country affected by Ebola could enter the United States with Ebola. Program faculty will provide important information for health care providers, helping them prepare to evaluate, diagnose and manage potential Ebola patients.

STD Patient Delivered Partner Therapy

Patient Delivered Partner Therapy (PDPT), a form of Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT), is the clinical practice of treating the sexual partners of patients who tested positive for selected sexually transmitted diseases. Program faculty will discuss the implementation of PDPT and EPT at Alabama Department of Public Health county health departments.

Caring for a Patient with Decreased Mobility After a Stroke: A Program for Home Care Paraprofessionals

More than 7 million people in the United States have survived a stroke or brain attack and are living with the after-effects. Program faculty will discuss stroke treatments, home adaptations and lifestyle changes when caring for a patient with decreased mobility after suffering a stroke.
