Physical Activity

Physical activity is simply any movement of the body that causes an exertion of energy. Physical activity can be done in a number of ways. Many common activities such as walking or gardening, climbing the stairs at work, or doing household chores are all forms of moderate physical activity. More vigorous physical activity includes soccer, basketball, aerobic swimming, running, or even dancing the night away with friends.

Physical activity does not have to be boring or mundane. Find what you like, start at a pace that works for you, and build from there. Regular moderate and vigorous physical activity of at least 2.5 hours a week can have significant health benefits, and the more you do, the greater the benefit. Aim to spread activity out over at least three days per week - this will allow time for recovery, and you will be less likely to burn out. By adding more of these types of moderate and vigorous activities to your daily routine you can increase your physical activity and help improve your health, no matter what stage you are at.
