Program Overview

This program presents for home health staff how to be prepared for problems related to heat stress for their clients. The presentation will define terms commonly used to alert the public about extreme heat events, including the differences between heat advisory, heat wave, heat index, and the medical problems of severe sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The program will also cover protective and preparatory measures which can reduce the risk of a heat event for home health clients. The program will conclude with a review of the heat-related illnesses of heat rash, sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and effective first-aid measures for each of these.
